Biography:
Dr. Lauren A. Barnes, LMFT grew up in Washington and Oregon. She is currently the Director of Clinical Training for BYU’s MFT graduate program. She maintains a small private practice where she primarily works with individuals struggling with body image, disordered eating, and other comorbidities.

Dr. Barnes has researched and presented on family implicit rules in eating disordered and non-eating disordered families as well as other family system dynamics related to economic distress, division of labor, parenting involvement, and marital relationships.

Prior to her faculty appointment at BYU in 2013, she worked as a therapist at Center for Change treating girls and women struggling with eating disorders within a residential treatment setting. Lauren grew up in a multicultural and multigenerational home with her native Cuban grandparents and mother and enjoys teaching and learning about issues related to diversity and families. She is married to Aaron and they have two children.

Ph.D. in Marriage & Family Therapy from Brigham Young University, 2013
