Financial Assistance

All of our students are eligible for financial aid and most students receive some sort of assistance. In most cases it is in the form of tuition help and employment as a graduate research or teaching assistant.

As research assistants working with a faculty member, master's students are awarded stipends of approximately $2,500 per semester for appointments of ten hours of work per week. PhD students are allotted twenty hours as research assistants and receive approximately $5,500 per semester.

Our financial aid policy is to provide aid equally to all of our students who need it. There is no competition between students for assistantships or tuition help. Currently, each student research assistant can earn between $7,500 to $16,500 per year per student, dependant upon the student's program level.

Currently we offer tuition supplements (stipends) for students during their two years of master's or post-master, Ph.D. degree coursework. Master's degree students receive half-tuition supplements and doctoral students receive full-tuition supplements.

In addition, our department and college has a number of scholarships and grants available for continuing students. These are awarded on the basis of need and performance, and are somewhat competitive. All continuing students are encouraged to apply for these supplemental awards. Additional financial aid information is available from the University Financial Aid Office (A-41 ASB).
